The Corrections Center and the Office of Community Corrections offer many programs.  

The following programs are offered by the Sheriff’s Office Corrections Center and Office of Community Corrections:

  • Allegan Achieve: is our GED program that is offered to incarcerated individuals. The skills that are taught in this program are mathematical reasoning, reasoning through language arts, social studies, and science. The inmates will complete practice tests, along with completing the GED tests, to secure a GED before being released from jail.

  • Animal Shelter Crew: is a community service program for inmates who are completely sentenced. They assist with animal care at the animal shelter.

  • Community Service Program: is a program offered on the weekends to work on a dayshift crew to assist with cleanup projects for non-profit organizations in Allegan County. 

  • C.R.E.A.T.E.S.: is a program that teaches employment skills to incarcerated individuals. The skills taught in this program include the completion of Work Keys, completing a career interest inventory, developing a resume and cover letter, keyboarding skills, career coaching, and computer literacy.  In addition, this program works closely with West Michigan Works to provide assessibility for employment interviews through zoom which could lead to securing employment while still incarcerated. Another facet to this program is that assistance offered to the participants to apply for college, apply for financial aid, and attend college courses while in jail. 

  • DEBTS Crew: is a community service program for inmates who are currently serving a jail sentence. The program provides cleanup assistance for non-profit organizations in Allegan County.

  • MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy): is a Cognitive Behavior Therapy group that identifies criminal thought processes and utilizes different topics to help change criminal thoughts into healthy actions.

  • OMSP-Opioid Meth Specific Program: is a residential treatment program that addresses addiction. The treatment center is located at Tri-Cap and this program is for all individuals regardless of their incarceration status. Some skills taught in this program is seeking safe environments, cognitive behavioral processes, social skills, anger management, relapse prevention, how to cope with trauma and uncomfortable emotions, and how to obtain/maintain sobriety. 

  • Seeking Safety: is a program that addresses women’s trauma. It provides skills to identify PTSD and Substance use and its correlation between them.
